Moka

I wrote this text for my Dutch class. The assignment was to write a text describing a personal experience including some research. It was not meant to be a psychoanalysis session: no research on the personal experience itself. In some sense, the assignment was to write a report, such as a visit to a city, including details on the city’s history, or something along those lines. Recently, I did not visit a city of which I would have like to deepen into its history, art extravaganza or whatnot. However, last week-end I cleaned our moka, the essential coffee percolator in every Italian household. The moka was the perfect subject for this (Dutch-writing) assignment.

De vs. het

‘De’ and ‘het’ are the two dutch definite articles. Their correct use is so complex that they soon become the most fearful nightmare of any learner of the Dutch language. It does not matter what you do, because you will just do it wrong. Unless 

L’alluce

I wrote this short story for the dutch newspaper NRC. The newspaper prints 120-words long stories from its readers every day. The stories are called ‘ikje’ (‘ik’ stands for I and ‘je’ is what the Dutch people uses for making a word cute). An one ‘ikje’, most of the time, readers tell funny anecdotes they experienced. Since sometimes the story published by the newspaper are poor, I thought to write a short story about one of my little girl’s pearls, in dutch.
